Black Friday Appliance, Live Performance at The Fidelitorium, Kernersville, North Carolina on August 29, 2016 Bryon Settle / Kirk Ross — prepared guitars
Recorded and mixed by Pete Weiss
This is part two of the full recording. The name for the piece is more obvious in the first section which starts with the sound of a Braun dishwasher purchased by Mitch Easter on Black Friday somewhere around 2014 or 2015 (year still being verified). Mitch said it was his only major Black Friday purchase.
Guitar materials include alligator clips, small metallic strips and two “found” kitchen tools from the Fidelitorium kitchen, a hand-cranked mixer and a vintage tomato slicer.
The narration and loon call in the early section of this part is from a mechanical disc player of North American Bird Songs (brand as yet unidentified).
Well, after a long wait we’ve found a way to record our sixth record, tentatively entitled Record Number 6.
We’re pleased to announce that the lovely and talented Pete Weiss will be jumping on a plane and coming down to work with us. Mr. Weiss is a longtime friend of the band. Years ago his band — The Pete Weiss Rock Band — recorded some tracks at Yellow Recording.
For Record Number 6, we’re starting out at Rick Miller’s Kudzu Ranch, then heading over for overdub work at Alex Maiolo’s place. We’ll finish up in Pete’s place in Vermont, hopefully in time to catch a little fall color.
We’ve been able to reclaim the old long lost Ludland site and most of the files. This makes us very happy. Putting up new/old things. There may be a few, well several, bum links if you delve too far into the past, but we’ll be fixing as we go.
